GUEST LECTURE SERIES „MEDICAL INFORMATION SCIENCES“
We are delighted to announce that the guest lecture series Medical Information
Sciences will continue this semester, once again covering a variety of topics relating
to medical information sciences. It will be held on a weekly basis on Tuesday
evenings at 5:30 pm during this summer term with alternating venues and livestreaming to the other location (University Campus and University Hospital Augsburg,
respectively).
For the lecture on Tuesday, June 20th 2023, we cordially welcome

PROF. DR. FALK VON DINCKLAGE
(Deputy director of the clinic for anaesthesia, intensive care, emergency and pain medicine at the University Medicine Greifswald)

„Clinical Decision Support in Critical Care“

As doctors in Critical Care Medicine in the Age of Digitalization, we find ourselves confronted
with a vastly increasing amount of patient data available. Processing all these data quickly to
find the relevant information bits under time pressure becomes more and more demanding.
Computerized Clinical Decision Support Systems can potentially alleviate these challenges by
assisting with targeted presentation of patient information and clinical knowledge. In this talk,
we discuss potential benefits and risks that might come with computerized clinical decision
support and why such systems are still not widespread in clinical care. We also explore current
research that provides some insight on how we might be able to develop systems that
ultimately lead to better clinical care.

Prof. Falk von Dincklage is deputy director of the Department of Anaesthesia, Intensive Care,
Emergency and Pain Medicine and head of the research group “Medical Informatics” at University
Medicine Greifswald. His research in medical informatics is focused on all aspects around clinical
decision support, including (1) data standardization and interoperability, (2) development of machine
learning based prediction models for clinical events, (3) development of knowledge-based and
machine learning based decision support systems and (4) usability of clinical decision support systems.

Date: June 20th 2023 (starting 5:30 pm)
Place: Großer Hörsaal, Universitätsklinikum Augsburg (Room 047, second floor)
The event will be live-streamed to lecture hall N2045 (FAI).

We once again offer the chance to arrange informal individual meetings with the
speaker
to discuss related scientific questions and topics as well as common grounds
with regard to personal research interests. Please send an e-mail to
office.bioinf@informatik.uni-augsburg.de to make an individual appointment a few
days in advance.

The lecture will last 45 to 60 minutes and it will be followed by an open discussion.
Each session will be rounded off with an informal get-together, where snacks and
beverages will be served.
If you have any questions or notes, please feel free to contact us: office.bioinf@informatik.uni-augsburg.de
