ISCO - Interdisciplinary Study Center Oncology

The "ISCO - Interdisciplinary Study Center Oncology" is the study center of the CCCA. Here, numerous national and international studies are conducted for adult and pediatric oncology, including new therapeutic strategies. The Interdisciplinary Study Center is the hub for study activities. In addition, clinical studies and registries are managed and coordinated.

New treatment methods and new active ingredients

If laboratory findings are so promising that they are expected to significantly improve therapy for patients, then these findings can be tested in clinical trials. In tumor medicine, this primarily involves the testing of new drugs, which are intended to improve standard therapies.
The legislator has imposed strict rules on the pharmaceutical industry and the treating physicians for the conduction of clinical drug studies. Thus, only treatment methods and drugs that have proven safe and promising in laboratory research, are tested in patients. New drugs are then tested in various phases until they are finally approved for the use in all patients with a specific disease.

Study participation

Patients participating in clinical trials, receive the best therapy known at that time.
The care of study patients is very intensive in order to meet all the requirements of quality assurance and so-called good clinical practice (GCP). Thus, every patient who participates in a clinical trial can be sure that he or she will be treated and cared for according to the best current knowledge.
In addition, they contribute to the development of new therapies or the improvement of existing therapies. They thus makes a very personal contribution to progress in cancer therapy, also for subsequent generations of patients.
