Die ICCAI gibt es gut 20 Jahren und ist das jährliche Symposium der Society for Complex Acute Illness, die sehr interdisziplinär und international zusammengesetzt ist. Thematisch beschäftigt sich die Gesellschaft sowohl mit mechanistischen als auch datengetriebenen Ansätzen für besseres Verständnis, Prognose und Therapie komplexer Erkrankungen, insbesondere auf der Intensivstation.
