Our Aim
Our common aim is to provide comprehensive care for children and adolescents with cancer and acute and chronic diseases of the haematopoietic system. An essential part of this approach is the care of children by their parents, but also by our nursing staff and our psychosocial team.
The Team
Our treatment team consists of paediatricians specialising in haematology and oncology, specialist nurses and psychosocial services, all of whom work closely together.
Team of Doctors
The medical team at the Swabian Paediatric Cancer Centre specialises in all areas of oncology and haematology, with globally recognised expertise and comprehensive skills.
Nursing Team
Qualified paediatric nurses – some with additional qualifications such as specialised care in oncology, pain management and palliative care – are highly committed to comprehensively meeting the individual needs of our patients and their relatives.
Psychosocial Service
Comprehensive care provided by the psychosocial team at our Swabian Children's Cancer Centre at Augsburg University Hospital is an essential part of the treatment concept.
Facilities
Our spacious, light-filled ward provides patients and parents with a comfortable and pleasant stay.
Maximum Care
Interdisciplinary Team
The comprehensive clinical care of children and adolescents is provided by an interdisciplinary team at Augsburg University Hospital, consisting of paediatric oncologists, paediatric radiologists, paediatric surgeons, paediatric neurosurgeons, radiation therapists, nuclear medicine specialists, pathologists, ENT specialists, and ophthalmologists. At the Swabian Children's Cancer Centre, we have all the necessary diagnostic and technical resources required for treatment.
Clinical Trials
More than 90% of our patients are treated within the framework of clinical trials. These procedures, known as Therapeutic Optimisation Studies (TOS), represent the highest medical standard. They are continuously developed under the auspices of the German Society for Paediatric Oncology and Haematology (GPOH) and in accordance with international guidelines. For rare diseases, individual treatment plans are developed in collaboration with national and international experts.
Complex Findings
The complex findings of our patients are regularly discussed in the molecular/immunotherapeutic tumour board and in team conferences with all participating specialist disciplines. In the case of difficult therapeutic decisions, recommendations from the respective heads of the therapy optimisation studies are also included in the decision-making process. In order to ensure a high degree of diagnostic certainty, relevant findings are confirmed in a second central assessment.
