A cancer diagnosis is a shock for the entire family and profoundly changes the lives of all its members within a matter of days. That is why comprehensive psychosocial care is an essential part of the treatment concept at our Swabian Children's Cancer Centre at Augsburg University Hospital. Extensive support and counselling begins as soon as the diagnosis is made and continues throughout the entire treatment period and beyond. The aim is to help patients cope as well as possible with this particularly difficult and stressful situation.
The offer may include the following:
• Crisis management
• Alleviating fears among parents, children and young
people
• Guidance in family, couple and individual counselling sessions
• Social law advice for professional and financial problems
• Neuropsychological diagnosis, education and support
• Supportive measures through play and creative activities
• Aftercare organisation and palliative care
• Organisation of external assistance
