The future-oriented research focus on the environment and health (Environmental Health Sciences, EHS for short) investigates how various environmental influences affect health and the progression of diseases such as allergies, heart attacks and strokes. The focus here is on climate change and research into air quality, in particular the risks posed by particulate matter and ozone.
Closely networked with the EHS, the second research focus Medical Information Sciences (MIS) is working on bringing together large and highly complex data from patient care, biobanks or mobile health applications in order to discover new correlations regarding the development and progression of diseases and integrate them into treatment and prevention. The aim is to provide personalised healthcare tailored to individual patients.
At the Centre for Integrated Translational Medicine , a Science Hub (virtual and real) will offer scientists from clinical and basic research as well as doctors and students the opportunity to come together, develop joint research projects in a targeted manner and carry them out on an interdisciplinary basis.
Networking across disciplines
The declared aim of Augsburg University Medicine is to quickly transfer research results into the treatment of patients and to transfer questions from everyday clinical practice back into research.
